Lucy is an artist, educator, and co-director of Paradise Works, an artist-led space in Salford, Greater Manchester. Her art practice is research led and uses existing objects, materials and processes to explore the ways that people are documented in material culture and place. The language and practices of social sciences and museum studies inform her site-specific sculpture, installations, and public activities, through which she intends to challenge the function of heritage and collection. Previous residencies and commissions include the National Trust, Cadw and Arts Council of Wales, New Art Gallery Walsall, National Glass Centre Sunderland, and Castlefield Gallery. Her work is held in the permanent collection of MIMA.
Since 2017, Lucy has worked with artist Hilary Jack to establish Paradise Works, curating a proactive studio community, developing key partnerships and commissioning public facing activities in order to explore how artists might retain their presence as part of city development. She was Visual Arts Fellow for Clore Leadership, 2019-2021, and was subsequently awarded AHRC funding for her research project on collaborative approaches to integrating contemporary visual art production in urban centres.
Previous production & curatorial activity includes Assembly Salford for a-n (2018), a-n Professional Development Bursary on arts production facilities (2017), and Rogue Artists’ Studios Place + Production programme including ‘Progress’ at Crusader Mill (2016). Lucy teaches Critical & Contextual Studies at University of Salford School of Arts & Media.
